These were among some of the last military black powder cartridge rifles made, as smokeless powder would become the norm after 1886 with the French's adoption of the the Lebel 1886 and it's "poudre B" smokeless propellant. These were later in used with smokeless ammunition with reduced loads similarly to what was done with the Swiss Vetterli rifles by the Swiss. It's chambered in the 8×60mmR Kropatschek cartridge.

The overall condition of the rifle is good just need a deep cleaning!
