Build a nice svelte 308 custom hunting rifle - maybe with parts you have

I started a pretty interesting custom 308 hunting and sporting rifle, but may want to sell this WIP item off to someone with the time and maybe the parts to finish the build.

The platform for the build is an action from either a Karabiner 98AZ (sometimes called a Karabiner 98a), or a Polish 98AZ – or a commercial derivative of that gun. When I acquired this, it was already scrubbed of markings, engraved and mated to a 22-inch tapered, threaded commercial barrel – with a perfect bore. There are no maker marks or proofs on the barrel and it has a deep luster blued finish.

You may know that the Karabiner 98AZ (later called the Karabiner 98a) was a nice tidy carbine, made for use by supporting troops, during the First War.  Notwithstanding this, many made it to the front lines – with over 1 M used by Germany in WW1. The gun itself was designed to achieve weight and length reductions compared to the GEW 98. It weighted about 7 pounds, while still shooting 8mm Mauser.

These are small ring Mauser 98 actions – with the same action length, screw hole spacing, etc. as a common German military Mauser 98 – and they take the standard barrel shank for those guns which of course is 1.1 inches with a pitch of 12 (see http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/mauser_reference.html) . They are cock on close and Mauser 98 pattern guns in all respects (except the ring size, and trigger, as below).

The gun takes a standard Mauser 98 bolt. Since there was none provided when I bought the barreled partial action, I added a really nice commercial 98 bolt. This has no safety. The bolt is mint, and may be unused.

The Karabiner 98AZ  was ultimately dropped – by the German high command. This was reportedly because the differences between this carbine and the standard, full length version of the Mauser 98 created complications for field maintenance, etc.

Specifically, one of the differences is that the carbine has its trigger conveniently moved about a centimeter forward and it has a different internal angle. See https://imgur.com/gallery/differences-triggers-between-g98-kar98a-9fmJzIi  I have not acquired a trigger with the necessary slide safety to get along with the commercial bolt. I also don’t have any lower action metal (specifically I have no trigger guard, mag base plate, mag spring, or follower).

You may already have these and not realize it.

$550 with the barrel. $325 without. Profitably make yourself a light, easy-handling hunting rifle – with positive feed and extraction.
