This is a single shot, black powder, bolt action Russian surplus rifle, which was their standard rifle before the Mosin was adopted. Berdan rifles continued to be used by the Russians though, in World War One, and in the Russian civil war by both the Red Army and the White Army. Some of them even were used in World War Two in small numbers. Many of the Red Guards that engaged in street fighting at Petrograd in 1917 were armed with Berdan 2 rifles. This example was manufactured at Tula in 1882, and still functions well. The tsarist eagle symbol appears to have been scrubbed off, so for that reason I think that this one was used by the Red Army, though I can’t prove that. The bore is dark, but the rifling is still pretty strong, and there is no pitting. The front sling swivel and the cleaning rod are both missing sadly. One of the previous owners carved five small notches into the top of the stock near the butt plate. The spike bayonet is in very good shape with no pitting. Comes with 20 rounds of 42 Berdan, and a bag of over 300 extra slugs too. I am fairly sad to be selling this one, but I simply need to clear up space. Price is fixed, text me at +14033315475 if you would like to buy it. You will need to have your PAL so I send the ammo to you.
