For sale is a restored early German Mauser Kar98k rifle.

This rifle has an interesting story. The "S/27" code and date stamping on its receiver indicate that it was manufactured at the ERMA factory of Erfurt in Thuringia, Germany in 1937. This rifle still has the earlier Weimar Republic eagle markings and you can just make out a Germanic font "Mod 98" engraved on the left side of the receiver.

Despite having a refurbishing "X" mark on the left side of the receiver which is commonly seen on Russian captured K98ks, this rifle (unlike most Russian captured rifles which are often mismatched and electro-stenciled) has stamping matched serial numbers on the receiver, bolt body, trigger group and magazine plate. The only electro-stencil matched serial numbers are on the safety knob and the cocking piece.

After the war, this rifle was put in a laminated sporter stock which was stamped with a serial number matching the receiver and a Czech VZ24 hooded front sight protector was installed on it. At some point, this rifle was brought into Canada where it eventually ended up collecting dust in a pawn shop.

This rifle was then removed from its sporter stock and restored as follows:

- a reproduction of the earlier Kar98k walnut stock set was fitted to the receiver;

- a set of earlier Kar98k stock hardware (earlier flat buttplate with screws, rear stock band, stock band retainer spring, front stock band and bayonet lug) was cleaned up, re-blued and installed on the stock; and

- a reproduction early 10” cleaning rod and threaded rod retainer nut were fitted and installed in the stock.

The blueing and condition of this rifle are very good for its age. Bore rifling is strong and bright. The action functions smoothly. It was recently test fired with 10 rounds of non-corrosive PPU 198gr 8mm Mauser ammunition. The rifle fed, fired and extracted without issues. Very accurate and perhaps the nicest looking Kar98k you will ever come across.

Asking $1,400 CAD. Willing to ship at the Buyer’s expense.

NOTE: In order to purchase this rifle, the Buyer must provide their PAL info (Name, PAL #, DoB and e-mail address) in advance of sale in order to get the legally required transfer approval and reference number from the CFO.
