Antique Mexican Bowie Knife

Interesting hefty Bowie knife. 16 1/2 inches long. Acid etched blade, bone handled with an eagle pommel. The motto on the blade, "El Valiente Que Me Ataje Lo Depacho a un Largo Viaje" translates as "If the brave one stands in my way, I'll send him on a long trip." It is maker marked "Hecho en Oaxaca Guillermo Maldonado Calzada Madero #91 1/2."

Formerly in the Rob Abels and Lou Kosloff collections. Sold at Morphy Auctions in 2022.
