This is an original Japanese officer’s Samurai sword from World War 2 remounted in civil-styled samurai mounts.
The blade is in Near MINT condition and the mountings are in Excellent condition.
It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67cm).
The hada is a tight ko-itame.
The hamon is a straight suguha hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi.
The tang is signed Kinmichi.
It is dated Showa Jyu Hachi Nen Roku Gatsu, or June 1943.
Kinmichi was a member of the well-known Seki school that made many war era swords.
The mountings are Civilian-styled and look to have been remounted on a sword that was initially intended for army usage.
The mounts are in Excellent condition.
The tsuka is wrapped in leather cord and looks to have been re-wrapped after the war with modern furniture.
There is little to no fraying.
The tsuba is iron with four accompanying seppa.
The tsuba is a little loose.
The saya (scabbard) is wood with a leather weathering cover.
The leather cover is supple and well-aged, showing some cracking along the seams.
The blade is in Near MINT condition.
There are no nicks, little to no rust, and just a few scattered scratches along its length.
There are no major flaws like hagire.
