For sale is a scarce original Civil War M1860 Union Cavalry Saber, looking for $750 shipped or best offer. This particular one bears the maker's mark of the letters BM inside a bow and arrow that indicate that it was made by J. E Bleckmann from Solingen, Prussia (now Germany). Full brass hilt and pommel cap showing nice wear and patina as expected of a blade of its age. The black leather that would have originally been wrapped around the wooden grip with twisted brass wire is nearly gone. Has original leather scabbard disc. Scabbard itself bears dents that indicate prolonged carry or wear against another object so the blade has by my estimate at least been issued and carried. Blade and scabbard have slight curve to them. The scabbard has a dark patina and the blade itself is in remarkably good condition. J.E Bleckmann was founded in 1808 and continued until 1880, and exported approximately 10,000 1860 pattern cavalry sabers between 1860 and 1861. I don't know much about this particular blade but have had it hanging on my wall for a while. If you have any questions or need anything please don't hesitate to get in touch with me, thank you!
