Stinger FIM-92 Surface-to-Air Missile Case, US ARMY Inert Surplus, Empty Case Only, MISSILE NOT INCLUDED, Large Rifle Case  

Up for grabs is a hard to find US Army surplus case for a FIM-92 Stinger Missile (MANPADS = MAN Portable Air Defense System) that can be used to hold a large PRS rifle up to 62” OAL, or rifle + tripod system, two Safari rifles, or two F-Class rifles. Note that the largest Pelican rifle case is limited to 55” OAL.

The original procurement cost for each of these cases was $2066.00 USD.  

Overbuilt for extreme ruggedness with reinforced structure, hinged lid with 4 heavy-duty latches, watertight O-ring seal, AGM breather valve (equalize internal and external pressures), carry handles and provision for wheel/ axe mount built into the lower bumper flange.  The interior padding system can be removed or modified to customize for your specific application.

SURPLUS HISTORY:

These came up for sale south of the border in limited quantities around 2008/ 2009. They were initially cheap, as low as $200 or $300 USD.  They disappeared quickly into private collections and small waves of secondary resales were seen over the next few years at prices between $400 to $600 USD each.

Now they are uncommon, especially in Canada, and prices have steadily crept up to reflect the supply / demand disparity.  

These are sought after by large rifle owners, military collectors, historians and curators of militaria.   If they are not used to carry rifles, they make great display pieces.

CONDITION: overall excellent with minor exterior wear, aft corners slightly bumped (see pics), excellent interior, one latch (rightmost) is missing the butterfly handle but still works properly.
