This is an antique Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver. It is a 6 shot .44 percussion revolver. This revolver was made in 1863, has multiple martial inspection marks found throughout and also has the factory cut recoil shield for a shoulder stock making this a U.S. military revolver. This has a 8” barrel with the barrel address being mostly strong and visible. It  is a well used military revolver with light pitting and numerous handling dings found throughout. The cylinder scene remains partially visible in areas. The wood grips are most likely replacement grips and have rounded edges. Matching serial numbers are found on all components except the wedge. The wedge is a newer replacement. Mechanically it seems to be in good working order with strong springs, proper timing and good lock up.
There were over 200,000 Colt model 1860’s produced from 1860 to 1873.  The 1860 was Colt’s third most produced percussion revolver and was the most common revolver on American Civil War battlefields.  While Colt had contracts with the Union Army there were also Confederate soldiers who were known to carry the Colt Model 1860 such as William “Bloody Bill” Anderson and Jessie James who later would go on to be accredited with the first bank robbery. Almost every Colt Model 1860 has a story to tell and no Colt or American Civil War collection would be complete without one.
