There are martial inspection marks found throughout this revolver and an inspectors cartouche found on the left grip making this a U.S. military revolver . The grips are in great condition with a light amount of handling dings. This is a serial numbers matching gun with matching numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and the grips. Mechanically in very fine condition with a strong action, proper timing and a solid lock up. There were around 122,000 Remington New Model Army Revolvers that were produced from 1863 to 1875. These were the second most common revolver on American Civil War Battlefields. The New Model was preferred by nearly all who shot one over the Colt 1860 due to the Remington’s superior design. There were a full frame sturdy revolver and were quicker to reload or dismantle in case of issues. William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody was known to carry one during the Indian Wars and has said “It never failed me”.
