This is an extremely rare experimental Kynoch Schlund Patent Model revolver chambered in .476 Kynoch (.455 Webley) in excellent condition with an original leather holster. This revolver is serial 36x of only about 600 ever made between 1885 and 1889. This example is a "Second Model" or Mk II (Mark 2) variant which featured upgrades to the trigger guard and the Sept 18, 1886 Schlund patent trigger system. I am not in a hurry to sell, but would benefit from some cash flow if a respectable collector is interested. Call for info, I am happy to answer.
Estimates put the “First Model” or “Mark I” manufacture at about two hundred pieces and about 400 of the "Second Model" or "Mark II" which this is. There were 3 different barrel lengths created, 6", 5", and 3", with this one being the 6 inch. The 6-inch barreled guns were chambered in .476, .455, .450 and .430.
The "hammerless" revolver, patented July 28, 1885 by Henry Schlund was unique in that it had a very innovative cocking mechanism using the double trigger for either single action or double action. The lower trigger allows for cocking and decocking, while the upper trigger is responsible for firing. Pulling both at the same time results in a double action shot. This is also a very safe mechanism because the firing pin only protrudes while firing and not even while decocking making misfire impossible. All mechanisms work as intended by my discernment.
The top break latch is a bit different than the common Smith & Wesson or Colt revolvers, similar to the Schofield model with an ergonomically pleasant thumb latch, but the opening, ejecting, and loading are all essentially the same.
The visuals are also wonderful, with a very clean surface showing original factory grind and no major scratches or marring. Some light dings are present on the top strap. The screw heads are clean. The grain of the one piece hardwood grips is beautiful and deep, while the wood is sturdy. The twist of the rifling down the 6 inch barrel is defined and strong. It is stamped "KYNOCH GUN FACTORY ASTON" and "PATENT MODEL" on the barrel.
18+, no PAL required.
