*PRICE DROP OCT 10* Parting ways with my Remington "Model 1861" Navy .36 caliber cap and ball large frame percussion revolver, produced by Remington for the Union forces of the American Civil War in 1862. Only about 7000 were made, but due to use in military conflict, natural degradation, wear, and usage there are likely many less in existence as functional guns today. This example is serial 29XX, all matching on barrel, under left grip, and on trigger guard. As a pre-1898 antique, this is considered "not a firearm" according to certain sections of the firearms act and criminal code, and can be sold to anyone over the age of 18 in Canada with no registration or restrictions on use. All the basics you'll need to get 'er out shooting are percussion caps, black powder, and .36 CAL lead balls (PAL needed to buy explosives and gunpowder).
*I also have a cap and ball Colt and several cartridge Antiques for sale in my ads!*
This revolver works, with a functional action and all mechanisms performing as needed. The cylinder locks up tight with only about 1.5 mm of wiggle room, spins freely at half cock, and indexes reliably for full cock. The mainspring is nice and strong. The seating lever spring that holds it in place when not used seems to be missing, meaning the release must be manually pushed forward to get it to latch shut but this does not affect function at all. One of the percussion nipples has some minor mushrooming but all others are in good, clean shape.
All factory finish has subsided due to surface wear to an even grey patina. The brass trigger guard has some minor scratches but is structurally great. The screw heads all show some marring from hamfisted screwdriver operation. The 7 3/8" barrel has strong oxidation with some rifling showing. One or both hardwood grips may be a replacement.
