I am reposting this "Antique Status" Colt Model 1877 Thunderer...I had it posted recently but took the ad down as I was having second thoughts about selling it. To me, owning a Model 1877 from this era is to own a piece of history but I have decided I am ready to part with it.
"The Model 1877 Thunderers became popular with Western lawman, outlaws, express companies, gamblers and other members of the "sporting" crowd...those who wanted something more easily carried or concealed."
"Western frontier luminaries known to have owned or carried Colt 1877 revolvers include "Billy The Kid", John Wesley Hardin, John "Doc" Holliday, Lawman Robert "Bob" Paul, U.S. Deputy Marshall Henry Andrew "Heck" Thomas, female outlaw Pearl Hart and also was one of Belle Starr's favorite guns."
When I first acquired this Colt 1877 Thunderer double action revolver which is a .41LC caliber, I had a gunsmith (experienced in antique revolvers) thoroughly go through it and test fire it.
The action is very solid and crisp and cycles with no issues whatsoever. The bore and cylinder are in nice condition. It is a six shot with a fluted cylinder.
As mentioned in the title, this gun was manufactured in 1888 and is the blued/case hardened model and I believe it has aged well and I would personally describe this Colt 1877 in good - very good condition.
It has a half moon front sight on a 3 1/2" barrel. These shorter barrels were made in smaller quantities and are often referred to as "Sheriff's" or "Storekeeper's" models.
It has the "Birds Head" grip with a shoulder on top . The two piece checkered hard rubber grips with the "Rampant Colt" in circle logos, are in good condition.
With these short barrel models, the arbor pin doubles as an ersatz ejector rod when removed from the frame.
It has all the proper markings (please refer to the pictures) and comes with a FRT Report.
$3,950.00 includes shipping in Canada via Canada Post. Insurance to be discussed with the buyer.
No PAL is required to purchase this revolver but you must be 18+ years old to acquire it and I.D. will be needed for verification.
Feel free to contact me for any for information.
