S&W Target Model, Very Rare 38 Caliber Antique, With Historical Letter

Smith & Wesson New Model No 3 Target Model in 38-44 Caliber. Comes with a S&W Issued historical letter giving great provenance/history on this rare piece. Only 4333 New Model No 3 Targets were manufactured up to 1910 and only 1413 were produced in 38-44 caliber, making this one very rare piece. This revolver was shipped to Massachusetts in 1890 as part of a small 2 gun shipment. Being that it's in the very rare 38-44 caliber it's great to know that easy to source 38 special brass fits well, making reloading a breeze/low cost. The action on this piece functions well, half and full cock work good. Timing and lockup are nice. The extractor functions excellent as it should and lifts/retracts upon barrel tilt. The extractor spring appears to be an oversized replacement, it works well just when you remove the cylinder for cleaning the spring catches on the sides. One of the tines/teeth on the ratchet is missing but this doesn't affect how the brass sits in the cylinder/shooting etc. Bore and cylinder walls have age related wear/pitting. Exterior has finish loss. Each grip panel has a small piece missing at the bottom. Barrel side has scratches. Comes with the valuable S&W historical letter! A true rare 38 cal S&W!
