We have here a very early pre-64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in 30-06. It has a 3 digit serial number (19*) that dates it back to 1936.
The rifle for the most part is in outstanding condition; the floorplate has a few scratches and the buttplate has lost most of the bluing, but other than that the rest of the rifle looks amazing and still has that classic early "charcoal" bluing that Winchester used on the very early rifles. This is a true piece of history.
The stock is original but has been refinished. That being said, the refinisher did an incredible job. You can see how nice and dark this walnut is. The quality of the wood from the early rifles was phenomenal and the gentlemen who did the refinishing said the stock was very strong and in great condition.
Please bear in mind that if this stock had the original finish I would be selling the rifle for $6000+ as 3-digit serial model 70's are almost unheard of these days. Especially one of the first 200 ever made!
