ex-UDF South African Mauser–Vergueiro M/1904-39 Portuguese in 8x57 (8mm Mauser). Marked with UDF "U and the arrow". A rifle with interesting history. She was made in Germany by DWM for Portugal, according to design of Vergueiro. Just before 1914 she was purchased by Union of South Africa for UDF (Union Defence Force Unie-Verdedigingsmag) in preparation for war with German colonies in Africa, because UK could not provide sufficient amount of SMLE. She took part in "War in the Desert" in 1914. Somehow she made back to Portugal where she was reworked in 1939 into M/1904-39 configuration. Matching numbers (stock is force matched during rework), except bolt shroud and safety flag, which is common for these rifles. Overall good surplus condition. Bore is mirror shiny with 10/10 rifling, like new.
