HiCal detachable mag camo SKS 19" - fully sorted

You'll be aware that the Canadian made Hical conversion system was created to allow you to adapt an existing SKS to take AR pattern magazines, including the 7.62x39 XCR 10 round round pistol varieties.

When properly fitted, this can mean that you have a gun that functions well, with up to 10 rounds of ammo - legally - and has an operational last round hold open.   You can, thereby, top of the mag with single rounds (as before the conversion), or use a stripper clip (ditto) or feed it with loaded mags. This can add a lot to the convenience of the gun at the range, or when hunting. 

However, these conversion kits are not longer available and - IMO, when you could get them new - they were no where near as straightforward to install, and get running,  as the maker suggested. In fact, I'm sure that more than a few SKS rifles were destroyed by hackers who did terrible DIY jobs with these kits.

I got this gun at an auction and can appreciate that a previous owner put a lot of time and money into this SKS upgrade project - as work performed obviously included a stock swap, camo painting and the installation of a Magwedge scope mount.  However, the HiCal conversion was not done well and needed the attention of a professional gunsmith, when I got this gun.  That requirement has been seen to and the gun is now reliable - and the bolt hold open functions as it should.

The scope and rings aren't included, but I left mine one the gun for these photos - to show that it is possible to still use the stripper guide - trick that you can't do with even a more expensive (and now banned) WK180 or an M&M MX10. This is a non restricted firearm.
