This rifle was imported from the US as part of a two-gun bundle; it’s the other gun that I wanted. It was inaccurately described as a “US Springfield Armoury 1896 carbine” and the stock was cracked at the wrist.
The crack has been expertly repaired by Louis S (Louthepou on CGN). After receiving assistance from someone knowledgeable in US rifles I am selling this as a Bannerman US Krag Carbine built on a 1896 US Krag Springfield rifle. Likely re-barrelled with a 1903 barrel and rear sight, which explains the very good condition of the bore with strong remaining rifling. It is in .30-40 Krag. From what I understand of Bannerman Krags, this transformation was done in the 1920s.
The stock is original US Krag and is very good with the rock solid repair mentioned earlier. All the fittings are really well done, the upper handguard fits that rear sight perfectly. See photos. The only exception is a uniform surface rust on the butt plate.
This is a handy little gun. Priced to reflect that it is no longer original, to $900 plus shipping, which is at the lower end of the price bracket that was suggested to me. Payment by EMT. Happy to respond to questions and send additional photos to serious buyers. Thank you for looking and reading through this extended description.
