This is a great example of an early Winchester model 1894 30 W.C.F. saddle ring carbine rifle chambered in the venerable and popular 30-30.
Depending on your source, the date of manufacture of the firearm was 1897 or 1898. By all indications, the rifle appears unmodified and unmolested – no drilling/tapping or otherwise anywhere in the metal or wood. Furthermore, none of the screws appear to have ever been tampered with. From the brass blade front sight to the flip-up rear sight, the firearm appears completely original – even the front and rear stocks don't look like they've ever been refinished.
The rifle is showing it's age though. There is an approximate 2cm hairline crack in the rear stock behind the tang, and another 4cm hairline crack in the forearm stock in front of the barrel band. Both look to have been there for quite awhile and don't appear to be traveling.
The action is somewhat stiff but functions as it should with strong halfcock and fullcock hammer positions. The bore is dark, but rifling is present. The addition of a reproduction saddle ring would be all that is needed to bring this ol' girl back to her former glory.
I would entertain trades for Ruger M77s or other Winchester 94s with DOMs in 1920s, 1930s and 1950s. $1075. PAL to be verified. Thanks for looking
