This Essential Agencies Limited [E.A. L.] .303 British rifle was manufactured in the 1950s in Toronto.  The E.A. L. rifles and are NOT   sporterized/ cut down from older military rifles, but newly- manufactured rifles. They were made in part from surplus parts from Canadian Arsenals Ltd. of Long Branch near Toronto after they shut down, and secondly from Savage-Stevens.303 British rifle made in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. USA, until 1944 when they also ceased making .303 British No. 4 rifles.  Both companies sold their spare parts to E.A.L. Both civilian and military E.A.L. rifles were made, this one being the civilian model. The civilian models were numbered in the range 2000 to 5000, this one being 3989.  Note that the L on the bolt serial number 1L3293 indicates that it is a surplus part from Long Branch rifle and that a 5 on the bolt head is a “square S” for a surplus Savage rifle.  On the barrel near the receiver is a C with an embedded smaller A representing Canadian Arsenals of Long Branch. The headspace was checked with a NOGO deice and it is very good.

The wood on the stock is Canadian walnut with no splits/dents. There is a recoil pad on the end of the butt stock made by Jostam of Peotone, Illinois, named an Anti-Flinch Recoil –Pad. The rifling in the bore is very sharp/crisp and shiny. The rear sight is a flip-up one with settings for 200 and 400 yards. .  The sling is a military one with brass ends. The bolt head is inserted in a slot near the receiver.  PRICE DROP TO $740 SHIPPED.
