Just completing a buy from Mike Wesson. I was somewhat apprehensive after reading the 2 negative reviews, however Mike was very straight forward in answering my questions regarding the sale of the Colt....test firing it for me and sending me a video. I will give another review once I receive the firearm. I am very happy with the transaction so far.
straight up about the condition of the revolver, sent photos and video to be perfectly clear about what l was buying. Shipped the next day. no problems. Merci monsieur.
Watch out. Sold me antique 1849 Colt pocket percussion revolver for a high price. A total mixture from various guns, worn out broken pieces put together to look good. What a mess. Will not respond to ad to settle dispute.
* For those not aware, this post is regarding an antique pistol Mike Wesson in "excellent condition that functioned as it should". That is not what I got.
Mike, I am sending you an update regarding the situation with the pistol that I purchased from you. I had to send this pistol to Chris at Old Guns for repair. Chris was not confident in his ability to fix this pistol as the repairs needed were quite extensive. Therefore, he sent it on to Larry Smith, who is a gunsmith in Florida and specializes in restoration of antique firearms and pistols.
I am going to give you a list of what Larry had to do to make this pistol functional:
- he removed the old, faulty firing pin and made a new one and cleaned up other places on the hammer
- he made a new sear and pin
- he had to tighten the arbor
- he reworked the hammer stirrup to be able to accept S & W 44 DA mainspring and also replaced pin
- cylinder was set too far back on arbor, leaving too much headspace and not enough clearance for cartridges, he removed the shims
- there was a new bushing made as the old one had been drilled out to oversize
So, here's the deal. I had to spend $601.00 for the repairs and $44.00 for postage.
If you reimburse me for this amount then what I will do is update the comments on the gun post to reflect your responsibility in this situation. If you choose not to honour this, I will go ahead and put this letter onto your post on the Gun Site, updating your post so the public is aware of your lack of responsibility and that you would sell a sub-standard gun as something that is in very good condition.
UPDATE: Mike has refused to respond to my email so I am posting this so everybody is aware that Mike has the potential to screw you. I would not trust Mike to stand by anything he sells. The community of gun enthusiasts operates in a realm of trust and honesty, Mike is neither trustworthy or honest. Buyer beware! This is an addition to the post made a few months ago about this situation. As long as people patronize Mike and do business with him, this could happen to you. I wish Mike had chosen the high road as opposed to the dishonest behaviour I experienced from him.Scott Davis
