This is an antique Smith & Wesson New Model No.3 Single Action Revolver. S&W produced over 35000 of these revolvers from 1878 to 1912 with all of the frames being made prior to 1899 making only very late serial numbers not eligible for antique status. This revolver would have been produced in the early 1880’s. This is a 6 shot revolver with fluted cylinders chambered in .44 Russian. It has a 6-1/2” barrel  with a round blade front sight.  The original finish is gone but it has a very pleasing look with its polished gunmetal. Most markings are still very sharp. Right grip is in good condition with the left grip showing a sizeable chip out of the bottom. Mechanically in very good condition with a good latch that displays no play and proper timing and lockup.
The Smith & Wesson New Model 3 was one of the best revolvers to be produced in the 1800’s with nearly every notable figure from the era having owned one at some point. Wyatt Earp was said to have used one at the Gunfight At The O.K. Corral. Outlaws Jesse James and John Wesley Hardin were also known to carry Model 3’s at times. The .44 Russian was the preferred caliber for most sharp shooters and was a favourite to Annie Oakley. The Model 3 with its top break auto ejection system make it very fast to reload. When coupled with the accuracy of the .44 Russian round, it gave a sizeable advantage to anyone who carried them. This was the actual revolver of the Wild West and would make a beautiful addition to any collection. This is an antique so no PAL is required for purchase. Buyer must be 18 or older and able to prove it. Shipping is available at the buyers expense. All used firearms should be inspected by a competent gunsmith prior to any form of use.
