This is a nice example of a Tranter 1868 Double Action Revolver by the famous Birmingham gun designer and maker, William Tranter. The serial number and manufacturing history would place this gun in the 1869 - 1871 range.
"Tranter revolvers are highly collectible and prized for their historical importance and craftmanship with each revolver telling a story of the era it was made, from the bustling gun workshops of Victorian England to the battlefields of the American Civil War."
This is a Tranter Patent Double Action 5-shot 1868 Model in 450/455 Webley caliber with the Tranter patented (patents1868-1871) pivoting cartridge ram rod extractor attached to the right side of the frame.
This exact model with the pivot ejector is discussed at the 19:53 mark of the YouTube video "History Primer 149: British Tranter 1868" which is a 1 hour and 20 minute documentary on William Tranter and his impact and influence on British gun making.
Personally, I have not come across another Tranter, posted or otherwise, with this same pivot elector system.
Everything is very solid on this revolver, the action is tight and cycles without any issues. The bore and cylinder are in great condition.
It is stamped by the retailer "J.Blisset & Son 322 High Holborn London" on the top of its 4" octagon barrel which still retains most of its original bluing and features a half moon front sight and a lightly engraved muzzle.
It has the Tranter Patent "football" logo on the left side of the frame with the serial number below which places its date of manufacturer in the 1869-1870 range.
It features "sunbursts" on either side of the rear of the frame, a checked hammer and a one piece fine checkered walnut grip that is in very good condition.
The barrel is stamped "450" with Birmingham proofs on either side and it accepts .455 Webley with no problem. I have fired this revolver using .455 Webley (flat-nose and wadcutter bullets) and it worked flawlessly.
It comes with a FRT Report.
Asking $6,500.00 will consider reasonable cash offers.
I also will entertain partial or full trades on "Antique Status" .38 Rimfire(s), but would consider other firearms both antique status or non-restricted rifles as partial trade or full trade depending on the determined values...feel free to message me on anything you may have.
