Antique Wall Gun (Matchlock Toradar) with Provenance from the Royal Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur.
.
O/A Length 6’ 3/8” and weighs 8 lbs 9 ozs
They are also be found described as an amusette, rampart gun, or Hackbut, a name originally given to early medieval hand cannon.
A find of Matchlocks in a bricked up room came from the Royal Jaigarh Fort and were inventoried / numbered for export. The numbering went rom JPR/EXR/2/3730 to JPR/EPR/2/9101
This one numbers JPR/EXR/2/4980
The wood (Rosewood) is in great condition for a 200 year old gun. (two areas where has been cracked from handling over the years)
The barrel measures 53 1/4” and has been varnished. There is very little surface rust on it. There is a bulge in the barrel about half way so I would say she has seen action.
Barrel was held on with four bands and two are missing.
Action works properly and smoothly
Bore is 15mm and muzzle is swamped
Rammer is steel and present
Butt Plate is wood
She supports export numbers, arsenal numbers and some native script
She is fairly difficult to shoulder and makes you look for a wall or rampart pretty quickly ☺
Located on the Hill of Eagles, Jaigarh Fort was built in 1726 AD by Sawan Jai Singh II. Jaigarh Fort is located at a height of 500 feet above sea level. It is made-up of sandstones and is spread over an area of 3 km
