Martini-Henry Mk IV 1887 577/450 British Army Rifle
This is a very nice example of the Mk. IV Martini-Henry - these rifles were mostly converted from short lever variants to long lever variants as can be seen by the wooden plug in the stock under the longer lever which itself is stamped with different markings.
Action is solid and locks up very well: one thing to note is the trigger assembly is slightly loose in the receiver and has some side to side play. The gun does have a solid click when you pull the trigger.
A point of interest is that the cocking indicator on the right side is of unusual size, being much larger than other examples that I own.
The bore is decent: burnished rifling with high lands and grooves, and minimal pitting.
The exterior of the gun has a heavy patina, but hardly any pitting and no rust visible.
Wood is in very good condition for being 135+ years old - there is one chip out of the stock under the bottom of the buttplate - this looks very old, as the finish has weathered over.
I have too many M-H rifles, so I've got to sell a few!
This M-H could be fired with a little TLC, but I make no statements to that effect, and advise consulting with your local gunsmith.
I will ship for $30 to the majors or meet up within a 3hr driving radius out of the GTA.
