This is a very early 3-digit pre-64 model 70. The serial number indicates that this rifle was one of the first 200 Winchester Model 70's ever made.
Overall for 1936-1937 everything is in amazing condition. I have referenced the "riflemen's Rifle" book and it appears to me all the parts are original and it still has the original "charcoal" bluing that is in great condition everywhere except the floor plate & the butt-plate. The stock has also been refinished, but it does actually look quite beautiful; strong & no cracks at all.
I need to take more pictures in better lighting. The pictures you see here do the rifle no justice at all. Its really a spectacular piece of history. I can send specific pictures if needed.
