History:
This Rifle, US Manufactured, No.4 Mk1 went through the Fazackerly Royal Ordinance Factory (near Liverpool England) where it was upgraded to a No.4 Mk 1*/3 with a modified receiver and trigger (trigger hung from the receiver vs the guard for smoother action).
The “S” and “C” indicate original manufacture by Savage Arms in Chicopee Mass USA; the “U.S. Property” stamped on the top left, makes it a “Lease/Lend” rifle that was sent to the U.K. in ‘42 as part of the Lease/Lend program of WW2. The “US Property” stamp was used as a tracking mechanism, but given their wartime use, there was no real expectation of their return.
This is an original well travelled rugged piece of history making a great large game rifle for today’s use in .303 caliber. Comes with qty. 2 10rd mags. (1 mag with matching s/n.)
Note: Adjustable rear sights, Good head space, extractor claw/spring in great condition (ref. pic), all still original,
Also note the manufactured bolt handle placement. The bolt is set back toward the trigger to reduceer movement and improve cycling efficiency. Shooters were known to cycle the bolt action with their 1st and 2nd finger, while maintaining placement on, and squeezing the trigger with, their third/ring finger. I’ e played with ot a few times that way and need more practice!..
